On 3 June 2021, Myanmar’s ‘National Unity Government’ (‘NUG’) issued a statement outlining its position on the Rohingya in Rakhine State. The statement said that they would repeal the 1982 citizenship law that denies citizenship to Rohingya in Myanmar. It also stated that they would abolish the National Verification Card and invited the Rohingya to ‘join hands’ to oppose the military.
